Hello!

I am _totally_ new to satellites, dishes and all that kind of stuff, but i got a dish here with humax 5300, and I"m trying to set it up for Hotbird.

In general, I have one "simple" question - What should I do? :)

Specifically, how to place the dish properly, where to point, how to set up the receiver... Ugh, I'm total newbie, sorry :)

Answers in English will be appreciated most (I can read Dutch as well thou) :)

Thanks a LOT in advance.

Owz. How to setup the dish, depends a little bit on the place you live. This has to do with the elevation and inclination of the dish.

The Hotbird satelliet is positioned at 13 degrees east, so with a compass that position should be findable.

When on that position, you have to move the dish up and down and a very little bit left and right to find the satelliet exactly and get a good signal, while watching the signal meter on your satelliet receiver.

The problem however is the fact, that mostly the signal meters on the receiver react 0,5-1 sec after changing the position.

Next to that problem, there is the problem of digital reception.

With analog reception one could make some bigger movements with the dish and still find the satelliet.

However with digital satellite, moving 2-3mm too far, is mostly already enough to have no picture at all.

So if you write the place you live, probably there is someone who can tell you the amount of degrees you dish has to point in vertical way, but still it will be a search.

Setting up the receiver is very easy.

Maybe you could best ask a friend or a tv or satellite dealer near you to install the dish for you. That way it will be setup the best way with the best signal.

If you have never done it before, and without a signal meter it is almost undoable.

Hi Favorit, buy at a satstore a simple signal meter (don't cost much) ask how it works and with a little bit of luck you'll find Hotbird.

When you're living in Holland the virtical position is about 29 degrees.

Spend a few hours on it,if it doesn't work you always can call a specialist.

After a few hours of screwing around I finally managed to get hotbird ;) Now my itch is to buy a motor, and get an option of receiving several satellites ;)
